Deadwood Slot Review
There are no limits to the RTP in this Deadwood slot game, which is on a sliding scale that the player can set, and there aren’t many limits on the prize money or number of features either – NoLimit City have really packed them in.
You can try the free play demo for Deadwood on this page before exploring more online slots or comparing UK casinos.
Another gunfight games added to the ever popular Old West theme, Deadwood isn’t in fact linked to the legendary TV series, but is a cheekily named sequel to Nolimit City’s previous shooter-outer Tombstone – you can’t copyright real place names we guess.
The game looks great, with animated character symbols bossing the reels above some serif-heavy card symbols. The soundtrack does a great job of adding to the atmosphere too, with Spaghetti Western-style orchestra tunes and lots of sound effects.
Nolimit City have done a great job here, and Deadwood works well on screens of all sizes, with a good intuitive control set-up and clear to read instructional content.
Let’s load up and look for a big bank to rob!

How to play

The game set-up is pretty straightforward.
The reels sit in the centre, with a 3, 4, 4, 4, 3 set up at the start of the game (there are 576 ways to win).
The spin button sits to the right of the reels with the auto spin and turbo spin features below it. They are over the balance figure.
Information, wins, and so on, are relayed in the centre of the screen and to the left of the reels are the bet control (tap or click to open a simple amount selector) next to the main sound control and a three-dot menu button. Click or tap that sees a choice of the pay-table, game history, and other settings.
Above that is a feature buy option. Feature buys aren’t usually legal in the UK so you may not see this in paid-for UK gameplay. Likewise, autoplay and turbo play features are about to be ruled out of order by the UK Gaming Commission.
The pay table is topped with gold bars (3.75-times stake), watches (3-times), safes (2.5), whisky bottles (2-times), and shotguns (1.5-times) over a run of card symbols paying between 1 and 1.25-times stake for a full set. The top possible pay-out is a 13,950 times stake, and you can bet between .20 coins and 100 coins.
The Features
There’s a big range of features in this game, starting with:
Hunter Wild, which is a four-row-high wild that can appear on the central three reels, and which will nudge into full view wherever it lands. This wild bumps up the multiplier for wins by one and multiple multipliers are added together to hit some really big wins. As usually, it subs in for everything apart from scatter and other bonus symbols.
The Shoot Out Feature. These are triggered with the Sherriff’s Badge. See one of those on each end reel and the low paying symbols in the central three reels will convert to wilds.
The game logo is a scatter, and three of them trigger free spins, which are awarded in a set of eight in two versions.
The Gunslinger Spins come with unlimited, sticky win multipliers from Hunter Wilds during the feature. Sherriff’s Badges each award an extra spin, and landing both of them upgrade the feature to Shoot Out Gunslinger Spins with the badges locked in.
Hunter Spins guarantee a wild on every spin. Sherriff’s badges operate in the same way as they do in the Gunslinger spins.
Shootout free spins are awarded in the main game by landing three scatters and the two sheriff’s badge symbols. They can also be won as an upgrade from the free spins listed above. In the main game you’ll win a set of 10. It’s not clear, but we guess that if you win the feature as an upgrade it will play out the remainder of your free spins. Locking the sheriff’s badges into place triggers shoot outs on every spin, so you get a reel full of wilds.
The Verdict
This is a very high-quality game and one that should appeal to those outside the usual fan base for western games. Something about this period in history seems to bring out the storyteller in slots designers – they must have watched too many old films when they were kids, like me – and so we get quite a rich experience with beautifully drawn characters.
It’s highly volatile, but there’s a bug prize at stake here. Beware of RTP ranges on the games you play, so check the details on the site you’re actually using before you click spin.
The features are innovative and interesting and once they start landing you could be inside that bank vault.
Deadwood Slot Q&A
Should I play Deadwood?
If you like western games then yes, of course. Also if you like high volatility games with big prizes. The complexity of the design and game structure makes it a miss with classic slots fans we think.
Are there any cool features I should pay attention to?
Look out for those big, beautiful wilds and watch the prizes start to shoot up when they land with their climbing multipliers.
If I like this game, what else should I look at?
Check out the big brother slot from NoLimits City, Tombstone, but the Western theme is a rich vein in slots world and you could try any of the Dead or Alive series and Mustang Gold for a touch of wildlife.
Is there anything else that I should know about this slot?
RTP ranges aren’t to our taste, but they seem to be the coming thing so we have to live with them.
Explain the volatility on the free spins for me?
There are two different sets of free spins. Gunslinger Spins are marked up as extremely volatile and Hunter Spins are said to be highly volatile. Volatility means that the Gunslinger Spins should pay out bigger prizes, but it is likely to award them less often.
