BGO Casino Overview
BGO was a very well established brand not only in the UK online casinos market but also around the world. Having initially started out as a bingo site (b–go), it became a firm favourite among regular casino players with a reputation for stellar bonuses and the kind of multi-tiered loyalty program you might expect from a top Mayfair casino.
We decided to have a look for ourselves and the verdict was overwhelmingly positive at the time. Here’s what we found.
Very Slick Interface and Navigation
During our BGO Casino review, we found the interface to be incredibly user-friendly – your balance, bonus balance, loyalty points and the BGO inbox were always on display with a very useful refresh button so players always knew exactly where they were at. You could jump between the five main sections – live, bingo, casino, vegas and games with ease, the main difference between casino, vegas and games being simply in the game providers which supplied the games for each section. This was a great way of arranging the site for slots fans who knew what they were looking for.
As was becoming standard, the mobile and tablet version of the site was virtually identical to the desktop version with only a handful of games not available for mobile play. Even the live casino could be played on mobile with only Casino Holdem missing. Again keeping up with the latest technology, BGO was a no-download casino, so players could play from the browser on mobile or desktop for a really smooth no-hassle experience.
What made BGO Casino one of the great UK online casinos?
Have you shopped around? If you haven’t, you should. The UK casino market is booming online – OK boomer? – and you arguably have more choice than any gambler in history!
Of course, all that choice is just a theoretical boost if you don’t take the time to check sites out, to demand the best from the sites you use, and to reward good sites with your custom and punish bad ones by leaving.
We did some of that for you, and we had a load to say about BGO Online Casino and what made it a great UK online casino in its day.
1 – BGO Online Casino Was Licensed for UK Players
Boringly, our number 1 priority for our readers remains the actual first priority they should have when checking out a new site: their own safety! This means never playing at an unlicensed site.
BGO Casino was run by BGO Entertainment Limited, of Guernsey, and at the time was covered by licence number 39533 from the UK Gambling Commission, which also covered Bgo Vegas, Powerspins.com, Bgo.com, Vegas Luck, and Chilli Casino.
They did have a single sanction on their account, dating back to 2017 and related to advertising. BGO has since permanently closed, so this is no longer a current site recommendation, but it was a licensed UK-facing casino during the period covered by this review.
2 – BGO Casino Was Mobile Friendly
If you play online video slots, you’re more likely than not to be playing on a phone. Mobile gambling became the biggest part of the industry, and as soon as you arrived at BGO Casino, however you arrived, you could see that it was a site set up for mobile users first.
3 – You Could Win Big at BGO Casino
The front page of BGO online casino had some interesting news for prospective players. It listed the biggest jackpot, well over £2 million, and it also confirmed that BGO had paid out nearly £60 million in the previous month, and had created five millionaires!
That was pretty impressive. With a great selection of jackpot games, including some of the biggest in the industry, progressives and other big prizes were a major part of the BGO Casino appeal when it was active.
4 – There Were Great Promotions at BGO Casino
We all like a nice welcome offer and BGO Casino used to see players sorted there with its 100% bonus to double up a first deposit up to £200.
But they went further than that, with a long list of other promotions that included giving away a total of 1 million spins on the UK’s favourite slot game, Starburst!
5 – BGO Casino Had Live Casino Games
It’s an odd paradox that as the technology to deliver games online has got better and better, the drive to innovate that has had most effect is the drive to make things more like an old-fashioned real-life casino.
That has meant live casino games are the must-have for all good casino sites today.
BGO knew that and delivered a great live casino offering that included streaming versions of all the classic casino games – there were blackjack, roulette, baccarat, hi-lo, and hold’em lobbies – plus some innovative titles like Spread Bet Live, Spin A Win, or Age of the Gods Roulette.
BGO Welcome Bonus, BGO Free Spins & Promotions
No-one plays for free anymore. That’s right, sites are so keen to win customer’s first deposit that they’ll pay you to play.
There’s a catch of course – no successful business offers no-strings-attached free money to all potential customers.
So, you need to know that a promotion serves a purpose for the site as well as for you. But if you play your cards – or your slots right – you can use BGO casino bonuses, free spins and promotions to get better value out of the site and to check things out at no expense.
Don’t ever expect to get rich off a casino bonus though. It’s not going to happen.
The BGO Welcome Bonus Offer
Welcome offers are the big, sparkly bread and butter of the casino industry. Every site has one, and there is keen completion to appear to have the best one.
You should always read the small print on a casino welcome offer; you shouldn’t expect to get rich off one, and you shouldn’t use a good welcome offer as an excuse to use a site that you wouldn’t otherwise use.
BGO was unusual in having a no-deposit bonus. It was small but nice that players could take a look around and enjoy 10 free spins on the popular Goonies slot just for signing up. There was a 2.5% fee on deposits and a £2.50 fee on withdrawals, so nobody was going to get rich, but it was worth noting.
There was also a more standard first deposit bonus. This was a 100% match on a first deposit worth up to £200.
There was a 50-times wagering requirement on this, which meant players had to put down a lot of money before they could start withdrawing cash won with the first deposit bonus. It’s best to acknowledge that the purpose of a welcome offer is to get you playing at a site for the long term.
Players could avoid the wagering requirement by opting for free spins. They could collect up to 50 free spins, though the 2.5% deposit fee and £2.50 withdrawal fee still applied.
Players could also specify live BGO casino games and get a 100% bonus worth up to £200 on those games, with a 40-times wagering requirement.
BGO Online Casino Promotions
BGO Casino demonstrated their commitment to players in the long term with ongoing promos and offers.
When we checked in on the site in October 2019 they had up a big holiday offer – Mauritius, yes please! – their one million free spins offer; a new-release themed giveaway, plus some tournament action to give players a social aspect to their gaming.
All this plus a loyalty scheme allowing BGO Casino players to earn their way up the ladder with a points system that rewards players just for playing, and allows them to spend their earnings in a loyalty store.
That’s yet another innovative feature at a site that looks like it likes to do things differently.
Remember, these promotions are historical. BGO Casino has permanently closed, so the old welcome offers and free spins should not be treated as current.
BGO Banking
With all those games there’s plenty of reason to cash up your account, and with luck, there could be big figures heading into your bank account as winnings.
You can pay into your account in a load of ways.
These include – there are more, and likely to be more coming, this is a very fluid area of the online casino business – the likes of:
- Visa and MasterCard and Maestro cards; PayPal, Neteller, and Skrill electronic wallets, and Interac Online.
- You should also be able to transfer directly from your bank account.
- PayPal, Neteller, and Skrill are all highly respected ways of paying online.
- Minimum deposits at BGO Casino is £10, and there’s no limit on withdrawals listed in the FAQs.
- If you want to monitor your play, you can set your own limits, a great feature for safe play that the site will also help you with.
- Paying into your account is very easy – all done via drop downs – and there’s always a great deal of help at hand at BGO Casino.
- Most withdrawals are pretty quick, with a 24-hour pending period, preceding a delay of 3 – 5 days to cards and banks. Most online wallets can be credited instantly once cleared.
- There is a charge on deposits under £500 of 2.5% and a £2.50 fee on withdrawals.
Making a deposit
Don’t do what we did though and deposit using Neteller, if you use Neteller or Skrill then you don’t qualify for the bonus. We contacted customer support (live chat was busy but email response was quick) asking if it was too late to use a different method and apparently it was, but we could still claim the second, third and fourth deposit bonuses at the normal rate.
Other Banking Options
All standard credit cards are accepted and you can also use wire transfer, Paysafecard, iDebit, Boku, Citadel and Paypal, as well as Neteller and Skrill although as we said, best not to use these two on your first deposits if you can help it. If you don’t want to claim the bonus, of course, there are no worries at all with Neteller and Skrill, and frequently these days more and more players are opting out of the bonus system.
This was one casino where we thought players would have to be crazy not to claim the bonus though. At 200%, you would not find a better deposit match offer in many places. Wagering requirements were 35x the bonus amount.
BGO Games
The main BGO games providers were Playtech, Net-Ent, NextGen, Bally, Ash, Barcrest and Microgaming. Rarely for an online casino, BGO actually provided a few of its own exclusive games too, such as Jurassic Island. Its bingo software was also exclusive, saving on rental fees from game providers, which they could then pass on to the players. Perhaps this explained the ludicrously generous sign-up bonuses?
We estimated there were at least three hundred slots across the site, with new ones apparently being added several times a week. It is a decent amount but what stands out is the quality, there are no old slots from the likes of Williams or turn of the century Microgaming here as you might find on other sites keen to bump up their number of slot offerings.
Classic casino games are covered by 11 versions of blackjack, 16 types of roulette, and twelve kinds of video poker.
BGO Slots
Whatever platform you’re playing on, and however much you like live casino games, slots remain the bread and butter of most online casino sites. Slots are the quickest and easiest games to get started with, they’re entertaining, and they come in a dazzling variety of titles.
How does BGO Casino do for slots then?
Let’s have a look.
BGO Slots Selection
BGO Casino listed its selection of online video slot games in a number of ways.
It picks out the Top Games. Then it selects some notable New Games. There are some slots in the casino selection. Then it lists “slots” as a type. Jackpot games are selected. And there’s the newly popular Daily Jackpots selection.
Top Slots at BGO Casino
Let’s have a look at those top BGO slots games.
- Starburst will be familiar to you if you play any slots at all. This game is a massive hit, the UK’s favourite game, and a big player in the free-spins and tournaments market.
- Slots of Gold is a Jackpot King retro slot in the Irish style with nearly £300 grand up for grabs as its top prize when we checked the site.
- Age of Gods God of Storms had an even bigger prize in play, of nearly £700,000 when we looked at the site.
- Gonzo’s Quest is an oldie, but remains hugely popular, delivering gameplay sophistication and cute character graphics.
- Fluffy Favourites is a cute game that’s a massive favourite in bingo rooms, showing BGO Casino’s roots in that market. Don’t be fooled though, it’s a game with major winning potential.
The sites top 10 favourites are rounded out with Rainbow Riches, Immortal Romance, Cleopatra, 8th Wonder, and Dragon’s Luck.
New BGO Slot Games
Novelty drives this market, and the new titles come thick and fast at BGO Casino.
Egyptian King, Monopoly Heights, 88 Fortunes Megaways, Butterfly Staxx 2, Vampire Desire, Wish Upon a Leprechaun Megaways, Long My Fortunes, and three versions of Kingdoms Rise – Forbidden Forest, Guardians of the Abyss, and Sands of Fury – complete the top 10.
Big Jackpot Slots at BGO Casino
Progressive slots are the biggest payers in the online slots world. Progressives work by taking a tiny slice of each bet made on the machine and adding it to a prize fund. That’s the top prize that’s the headline figure here.
BGO Casino had a load of these games, with impressive prizes.
- Age of Gods Apollo Power was offering up nearly £700,000 as a top prize, that was also on offer at the other titles in the franchise.
- Mega Moolah, the world’s highest paying slot, was shooting up past £2.5 million when we visited.
- Mega Jackpots Wolf Run had £515,103 as a top prize. Cop the Lot was paying out £276,723 (also paying out from Top Cat).
- Jackpot Giant also had around £2.5 million, and Mega Jackpots Golden Goddess had more than £500,000.
Daily Jackpots is a popular new feature at a lot of casinos, and it’s easy to see why with guaranteed pay-outs to be own every day. This selection at BGO Casino features the likes of Reel King Mega, Mega Pyramid, Mystic Wheel, Kingdoms Rise titles, Pirates’ Plenty, and Mayan Gods, offering prizes ready to drop from a couple of thousand pounds up to 10s of thousands.
Loads of Progressive Jackpots
Progressive jackpots are one of BGO’s strongest points, they clearly listened to their players because they used to be quite weak in this area by all accounts but now there are over fifty games featuring a progressive jackpot! Highlights include the multi-million-pound Jackpot Giant, as well as big-hitting Mega slots Mega Fortune and Mega Cleopatra and the Age of Gods slots. Marvel Progressive Jackpots also feature in a number of games from slots to roulette.
Age of Gods meets Roulette
BGO Live Casino
Live casino sites are the cutting edge of the online casino world right now. If a site wants to get new customers in 2019 and 2020 it really needs to have good quality live casino offering.
BGO had a massive live casino offering that was available to all players, including mobile users.
The BGO live casino site has no fewer than five live game lobbies.
That’s live blackjack, live casino hold’em, live hi-lo, live baccarat, and live roulette.
And there’s much more than that. Those games open a great choice of variants on those favourite table and card games.
Plus, there are specials like live football roulette, Age of the Gods Roulette, spin a win (a wheel of fortune game), plus royale blackjack, and quantum roulette.
Great range of BGO live casino games
This means a huge range of gaming experiences and a huge range of staking. Royale Blackjack, for example, allows you to stake up to £1,000, but you could be spinning from just 20p on the live Quantum Roulette table.
So many choices!
The BGO Live casino games are only as good as the dealers who run them though, and BGO promised to deliver that, with highly trained staff playing the games for you around the clock.
There’s a good guide to what to expect and all the details you need to get you started at the site. Take a read of it before you put on your tux and wander down to the tables. Or play in your pyjamas if that’s your style! That’s the beauty of live casino play, you get all the glamour of the real-life experience wherever and whenever you want.
These games were available to everyone, and casino sites wanted to show them off. That meant a lot of promotions and offers that were specific to live games, which were often left out of welcome offers. Again, this is historical context only, as BGO Casino has now closed.
BGO Mobile Casino & BGO Casino App
Mobile gaming isn’t the future of online casino sites and video slots, it’s the vibrant and exciting present of the sector.
More and more players want to play on the go. So sites are reacting and producing ever-better mobile services and tech.
No longer are mobile players an afterthought who get a much-reduced selection of games to play from. Mobile players are the majority of the market in 2019, and if you don’t give them a site worth staying at they’ll hit the back button and go elsewhere.
How does BGO Mobile Casino do for its mobile players?
Let’s have a look!
Mobile games at BGO Casino
Not all games are available on mobile sites and via mobile apps, but these days the majority are. BGO mobile casino allows mobile players to enjoy a huge selection of slots, live casino games, table games, and more on smaller devices.
The live casino selection is big, but it can be enjoyed however small your screen is.
Players could check out the BGO mobile casino site or app to see which games are listed for you.
BGO Casino Mobile Website or App?
Naturally, BGO Casino has a fully functioning mobile website – every business in the world has that now. So, if you prefer to operate that way you can just browse along to the address using your usual web browser. The site is fully licensed and completely safe to use on any platform.
But you might want to use an app.
There are pros and cons to using apps. It is generally quicker and more convenient to use an app. Sites like you to use an app, so they sometimes offer exclusive content or offers through their app. The reason why they want you to use their app is that it commits you to use their games more often. If you download an app to your home screen you’re more likely to tap it than to shop around every time you fancy a spin.
Bear that in mind when you decide whether to download or not.
BGO Casino App on Android, iOS, and Windows
BGO mobile casino did have an app, and they’d love you to download it.
Doing so is very easy to do, and it opens up the site to you on a number of platforms.
BGO could be played via an app on Android. The Google operating system runs a load of mobile devices, including some of the world’s most popular smartphones and tablets. So if you have an Android device just head along to the Google Play store and pick it up.
If you’re an Apple kinda guy or gal then you’re going to need an iOS version of the app. That’s waiting for you too in the App Store, where you can download a BGO app to run on every version of your iPhone or iPad.
Downloading and installing these apps was extremely easy, and before players knew it they could be spinning and winning on all your devices with the BGO casino app.
BGO Customer Support & BGO Live Chat
Hopefully, all your deposits will go through and all your withdrawals will be prompt! However, there needs to a way to call for help, and BGO Casino gave players plenty of ways to get in touch.
First of all, the option most sites offer is a live chat, and BGO Casino had that option. You can click and chat with an online agent from 7.30 am to 1 am every day, just head to the Help page.
There’s also a form to send emails to ask for help.
And, finally, there’s a phone number and an address in Alderney to write to.
Customer services can be reached seven days a week, as can the responsible gaming team, both from 7.30 am to 1 am.
You may not even have to go that far though. There’s a dedicated contact page for uploading the documents you need to send to the site to verify your account.
FAQ
And the company’s FAQs are very high quality and will answer a lot of your questions. Here you’ll find a lot of information on how to ask for further help. They’ll also tell you how to get started at the site. How promotions are communicated. How bonuses work, with very transparent details on all the terms and conditions used. Account handling. Forgotten passwords. The loyalty programme. Help with responsible gaming. Money laundering precautions.
Hopefully, players would not need any of these services. BGO was a safe casino site during its active period and one that was well designed and easy to use. The menus and site design were self-explanatory and most of the functions of the site were very easy to understand if you’d ever used a casino site. We’d rarely seen a site better designed for mobile users than BGO Casino.
However, if you need it, help is there in at least three forms, and it’s reportedly very high quality.
Peace of Mind Security
When we signed up at BGO we were reassured to read that our funds would be kept in a separate account by BGO. It was standard practice if you wanted a UK licence to keep player funds in a separate account, but there was an additional layer of protection offered by an insolvency guarantee, which guaranteed player money would not be touched if BGO went down. This was really good to know and just underlined what a serious and player focussed operation BGO was running at the time.
5 tiered Loyalty Elevator
When players visited the loyalty lobby, they were able to take the elevator up to whichever floor they had qualified for, the top floor Penthouse being reserved for the very creme de la creme of VIP high rollers. As players stepped out of the elevator, they were able to cash in loyalty stars for a variety of goodies, depending on level, ranging from free spins and cash vouchers all the way up to holidays, electronics and top-secret perks that we weren’t yet qualified to mention…
the exclusive Penthouse club awaits…
The Verdict
It was a pleasure reviewing BGO Casino. At the time, it had to be one of the smoothest online casino experiences out there, with fantastic attention to detail and obvious care put into every facet of the user experience.
They were clearly aiming as high as possible with their acquisition of star names and a series of TV adverts – the ambition to be the best online casino was obvious, and they seemed well on their way to achieving this. The software was bang up to date, with new games from the coolest design companies appearing with refreshing regularity, and the bonuses were, at the time, hard to beat.
Sadly, BGO Casino has now permanently closed, so this review should be read as a historical look back rather than a current recommendation. If you’re looking for a new online casino to try today, choose one of the active UK casino options listed above instead.
