About ELK Studios
Some slots give you a win and move straight on to the next spin. ELK Studios seems to prefer keeping things moving.
A wild bull can walk across the reels. Birds can collect matching gems and open more of the grid. Elsewhere, symbols slide around after a win or a small reel can represent a whole stack of matching symbols.
That movement is a good place to start with ELK. The games below don't all use the same system, but there's usually something happening on the screen beyond waiting for a line to light up.
ELK Studios was founded in 2013 and comes from Stockholm, Sweden. The studio has had a mobile-first approach from early on.
Scientific Games bought ELK in 2021, and the studio now sits within Light & Wonder. The ELK name stayed, so that's still what you'll see beside the games in casino lobbies.
ELK is also licensed to supply and host casino games in Great Britain. You'll find its slots at UK casinos, and the demos on this page let you explore some of the different game types.
From Mobile-First Slots to Familiar Game Series
ELK has been revisiting some of the same characters and ideas for years, but the sequels don't always play like the originals.
Wild Toro is one of the older names and won Game of the Year at the 2017 EGR Operators Awards. The bull's moving-wild feature became a recognisable part of the series.
Pirots goes in another direction with CollectR. Here, you're watching coloured collectors gather matching gems from a grid.
Then you have series such as Nitropolis, Katmandu and Cygnus, where ELK has kept changing the grids and features between releases.
A familiar name doesn't necessarily mean familiar rules. Katmandu Gold, for example, belongs to ELK's Gold series; it isn't simply the original Katmandu with a new title. Check the full game name when looking for a particular feature.
There's More Than One ELK Style
ELK's expanding grids can make the catalogue look more uniform than it is. Its Classic series takes a different route. Toro 7s uses three reels, nudging wilds and locked multiplying wilds, while Book of Toro combines a five-reel book-style game with the character's charging and walking wilds. The familiar bull links them, but the games underneath are different.
That also helps put CollectR in context. Pirots isn't a Megaways game, and a huge ways figure in Nitropolis doesn't make that game Megaways either. ELK uses several different approaches to paying wins: fixed layouts, changing grids, collections and reels within reels. Pick the kind of action you enjoy before treating a larger number of ways as an upgrade.
The same goes for the Gold name. Katmandu Gold's large transforming symbols have a different job from Pirots' collectors. Someone who likes watching a grid develop has several options here, without having to settle on one particular reel system.
ELK Slots to Explore
Wild Toro
Game Information
Toro doesn't just appear as a wild and disappear again. He travels across the five-reel, four-row game, bringing respins as he moves. Meeting a matador can leave wilds along his path; three matadors open the Matador Respin Challenge.
That interaction is what makes Wild Toro easy to remember. The theme won't suit everyone, but the central idea is clear: the bull's movement changes what's left on the reels.
Pirots
Game Information
Pirots replaces paylines with four collectors, each gathering gems of its own colour. Collections pay and fill a feature meter; completing it opens three chests that can add upgrades, wilds and more space. The starting 5x5 grid can reach 8x8.
Collect three bonus symbols in one round to trigger free drops, taking the grid expansion and gem upgrades with you. Those coloured birds aren't just decoration: following which gems each one can collect explains the game far better than looking for a line of matching symbols.
Katmandu Gold
Game Information
Katmandu Gold's Ice Climber changes its own position and the symbols above it into higher-value symbols or wilds. Large versions cover up to 4x4 positions, with empty spaces beneath becoming wilds too. Expanding Win symbols can spread along their arrows when part of a win.
The grid can reach nine rows and 531,441 ways. Three or more bonus symbols trigger Multiplier Free Drops, where the multiplier persists and can increase. It gets busy, but those large symbols give the changes on the grid a visible cause.
Nitropolis
Game Information
Nitropolis fits smaller Nitro Reels inside its six-reel, four-row layout. Each occupies two positions but represents four to 12 matching symbols, helping explain the enormous maximum of 85,155,840 ways without filling the screen with that many individual symbols.
Winning symbols can respin until no further win appears. Three or more bonus symbols trigger free spins with locked Nitro Reels and a chosen symbol paying as a scatter. There's more to follow than in Wild Toro, but the little reels inside the reels are the defining idea.
Cygnus
Game Information
In Cygnus, where a symbol ends up matters. Avalanches and shifting gravity move symbols around a six-column grid that can grow from four to eight rows. Multiplier scatters activate at the bottom; each new activated scatter doubles the total, up to 64x.
Get a bonus symbol to the left pillar and it triggers seven Free Drops with all eight rows open. I like that distinction: one symbol wants the bottom of the grid; another is trying to reach the left side.
ELK Game Versions and Features in UK Casinos
ELK likes sequels, and the number after a game name can mean considerably more than another coat of paint.
A Sequel Can Change More Than the Theme
The original Wild Toro starts on a 5x4 layout. Wild Toro II begins at 5x5 and can add rows when matadors appear, reaching eight. A golden matador can also pass its multiplier to Toro. That's a change to the way the feature develops, not just a new backdrop.
Nitropolis 2 adds a Nitro Booster reel across the top. Green boosters affect Nitro Reels in the same column; gold ones can affect all of them. The smaller reels are still the central idea, but there's another source of upgrades and features above them.
Even the starting layout can change within a series. Cygnus opens with six columns, whereas Cygnus 5 starts with five reels and four rows. Remembering the name is useful; remembering the exact edition is better.
What About X-iter?
X-iter is ELK's name for a menu of paid game modes. Depending on the title, these can change the starting conditions, guarantee a particular feature or provide direct entry to a bonus. It isn't the name for Pirots' CollectR system or Nitropolis' Nitro Reels.
Don't use an X-iter menu shown in a global demonstration as a guide to what's offered in a UK casino. The controls and rules in the version you've opened are the relevant ones. A slot's ordinary bonus trigger is separate from any paid route into a feature: the original Pirots, for example, triggers free drops when its collectors gather three bonus symbols in one round.
ELK on Mobile
Mobile has been part of ELK's approach since its early years. The catalogue also supports desktop play. Cygnus 5, for example, is offered in both mobile and desktop versions.
ELK RTP Settings
Check the RTP in the game's rules. A UK-listed configuration of Cygnus 5 has a 94% theoretical return; that is a figure for that game configuration, not an ELK-wide rate or a forecast for your balance.
Finding an ELK Casino in the UK
ELK is a good place to look if you like a feature that visibly changes the game: a travelling wild, a growing grid or symbols finding their way to a collector.

FAQ
Can I play ELK slots for free?
Yes. The available ELK demos use virtual credits, so there's no real money to stake or withdraw. They're useful for seeing what the collectors, moving wilds and changing grids actually do.
Can I play ELK games on my phone?
Yes. ELK develops mobile-first slots as well as desktop games. Open an available title through your casino's mobile website or app. Some games, such as Kaiju, are specifically designed for portrait play, so you don't always need to turn your phone sideways.
Do all ELK slots use the same game format?
No. ELK uses several formats, from conventional reels to growing grids. Pirots uses CollectR, where characters collect matching-colour gems, rather than Megaways. The distinction matters: you're following collections instead of looking for winning combinations across reels.
Why are ELK's X-iter bonus buys missing in UK casinos?
X-iter includes paid modes that can take you straight into a bonus. UKGC-licensed online casinos do not offer feature buys, so an international demonstration can show options missing from your game. The ordinary bonus triggers are separate and are explained in that game's rules.
Where can I find an ELK game's RTP?
Open the game's information or help menu and look for its return-to-player figure. Use the details for the version at your casino, not a figure copied from another site. RTP describes a theoretical long-term return, not what you'll receive in one session.
