About Nolimit City
Nolimit City has a taste for trouble. Prisons, outlaws and horror turn up throughout the catalogue, along with jokes that certainly aren't trying to please everybody. If another cheerful slot full of smiling symbols leaves you cold, you may already be curious.
Personally, I don't need a game to shock me. But I do like a developer with ideas, and Nolimit has some good ones. Wilds can move along the reels, symbols can split in two, and a bonus can gain new features partway through. There's more to discuss here than the artwork.

How the developer made its name
Nolimit City was established in 2014 and became part of Evolution in August 2022. It still releases games under the Nolimit City name, alongside other Evolution-owned studios such as NetEnt and Red Tiger.
Tombstone arrived in 2019, followed by Deadwood in 2020. Both Westerns used nudging wilds and bonus multipliers, ideas that would return in later releases. Then came a busy 2021, with San Quentin, Fire in the Hole and Mental.
San Quentin xWays went on to win the European Game of the Year category at the 2021 Gaming Intelligence Awards.
Do all the games look this grim?
No, although the darker ones get plenty of attention. Hot 4 Cash has fruit symbols and a disco theme, while Casino WinSpin uses a more traditional casino setting. Nolimit hasn't spent its entire career drawing prison cells.
What Makes Nolimit City Slots Different?
Nolimit often builds a slot around what happens to the symbols after they land. A wild might shift into place and gain a multiplier; another feature might create extra copies of a symbol.
The developer calls these features xMechanics. You'll see the names repeated across the catalogue, though the details depend on the game.
xNudge: moving wilds and growing multipliers
An xNudge wild moves up or down until it fills the reel. Each step can increase the multiplier attached to it. So a wild landing partly off-screen can do more than simply move into view.
In Tombstone and Deadwood, the Gunslinger free-spin rounds take this further: the multiplier stays for the feature and can keep growing as more wilds nudge into place.
xWays and xSplit: more symbols on the reels
An xWays mystery symbol opens to reveal several matching symbols, increasing the number of winning combinations available.
xSplit cuts symbols into smaller copies. In xWays Hoarder, the split affects symbols to the left on the same row. A symbol split into two can therefore count twice when the game works out the ways to win.
Nolimit City Slots to Try
Tombstone
Game Information
The original Tombstone launched in May 2019. Outlaw wilds nudge into place on the middle reels, but the free-spin rounds are the main attraction.
Justice Spins keep landed outlaws in position. Gunslinger Spins instead build a multiplier that stays for the feature. Bounty Spins combine the two. I like how those rounds build on an idea you already know from the main game, rather than introducing a completely unrelated bonus screen.
Deadwood
Game Information
Deadwood followed in May 2020, with bounty hunters, sheriff badges and a larger reel area. Three scatters let you choose between a guaranteed wild on every free spin and a multiplier that carries through the bonus.
The first option is Hunter Spins; the second, more volatile choice is Gunslinger Spins. Both start with eight spins. Land two sheriff badges on the same bonus spin and the round upgrades to Shoot Out Spins, turning low-paying symbols into wilds on the middle reels. There's quite a lot resting on those badges.
Punk Rocker
Game Information
Punk Rocker swaps the Western for graffiti and a punk theme. Molotov wilds expand upwards, while xWays mystery symbols can reveal stacks of matching symbols.
Three scatters open eight Anarchy free spins and an extra reel. The scatters become jumping wilds, which move between positions and can gain upgrades from the subway train above the reels. This is the original Punk Rocker, not Punk Rocker 2.
San Quentin
Game Information
San Quentin arrived in January 2021. Locked spaces above and below the reels, called Enhancer Cells, can open to reveal extra symbols and modifiers.
During Lockdown Spins, jumping wilds move around the reels. A wild landing on a reel with a Razor Split modifier doubles its multiplier, which then stays for the rest of the feature. That's the part that interests me: where the wild lands matters to the following spins too.
Fire in the Hole
Game Information
Fire in the Hole takes you underground. Winning symbols disappear, replacements fall in and each collapse opens another row, up to six. Exploding xBomb wilds can also clear symbols and increase the multiplier.
The Lucky Wagon bonus changes to collecting coins. It starts with three spins and resets to three when another coin lands. Wagons above the reels can add modifiers when a coin lands below them. Of these games, this is the one that most appeals to my fondness for a bonus with something to collect.
Mental
Game Information
Mental was released in August 2021. Fire Frames open Enhancer Cells that can bring several of Nolimit's features into play, including splitting symbols, nudging wilds and xWays.
It's a busy combination, wrapped in an asylum-horror theme. I can appreciate the way the features connect while still disliking the setting. Give me Tombstone's outlaws over this particular horror story.
What changes in the sequels?
Sometimes the rules change quite sharply. Tombstone R.I.P, released in 2022, removes any spin payout below the base stake. At a £1 base stake, a result that would otherwise pay 60p pays nothing. Nolimit calls this xRIP. It's a specific rule in that sequel, not a rule for every Nolimit slot.
That would put me off choosing R.I.P simply because I liked the original. Small returns still count, even when they don't cover the whole stake. If you're searching for a game you've enjoyed before, include the full title: Tombstone and Tombstone R.I.P are separate releases, as are Deadwood and Deadwood R.I.P.
RTP, Volatility and Those Huge Maximum Wins
Nolimit City is particularly associated with high-volatility slots. Losing runs and uneven payouts are part of the risk, even when a game has an enormous advertised maximum. A long wait doesn't bring that maximum any closer.
San Quentin, for example, lists a payout cap of 150,000 times the base stake. That tells you the upper limit, not what a normal bonus pays. I'd rather choose a game for the features than for the biggest number on the loading screen.
RTP needs a little care too. Deadwood's game sheet lists versions around 96.03% and 94.15%. Look in the game's help menu for the figure at your casino; don't assume every version uses the higher one. RTP describes the theoretical long-run return, not the amount you'll get back from your own session.
Playing Nolimit City Slots in the UK
Nolimit City Limited holds active UK Gambling Commission licences for gambling software and casino game hosting. The games are available through UK-licensed casinos, with the exact selection varying by site.
The stake limits differ from international game sheets too. In Great Britain, online slots are capped at £2 per game cycle for adults aged 18-24 and £5 for those aged 25 or over. A casino can set a lower limit.
Why is the bonus-buy button missing?
A bonus buy lets you pay to enter a feature directly. You may see that button in overseas versions or videos, but feature buys aren't available at UKGC-licensed online casinos. The Commission required operators to remove them. UK play uses the available in-game triggers instead.
Can you play on your phone?
Yes. Nolimit City makes games for mobile, tablet and desktop. Open them through a casino's mobile website or an app that includes the titles you want; there's no need to install each slot separately.
Finding a Nolimit City casino
For real-money play, compare our recommended UK Nolimit City casinos for their payment options, withdrawal terms and current offers. Start with the game you want, then compare the sites that have it.
My pick for exploring the features would be the original Tombstone. For a collecting bonus, I'd go with Fire in the Hole. Try the free demos, or browse our recommended UK casinos if you want to play for money.
18+ only. Please gamble responsibly.
FAQ
Are all Nolimit City slots extremely volatile?
No. Much of the catalogue is highly volatile, but there are exceptions. Nolimit describes Mayan Magic Wildfire as medium volatility. The rating belongs to the individual game, not the whole developer.
Can you win real money in Nolimit City demos?
No. Demos use virtual credits. Any winnings stay in the demo and can't be withdrawn. You can use them to learn the rules and features, but demo results don't predict how a real-money session will go.
Why is the bonus-buy button missing from Nolimit City games in UK casinos?
UKGC-licensed online casinos do not offer feature buys, which let you pay to enter a bonus directly. The Gambling Commission required their removal. International demonstrations may show the button, but UK games use the available in-game bonus triggers instead.
Is the RTP the same in every version of a Nolimit City slot?
No. Some games, including Deadwood, have more than one RTP version. Read the return in the game's help screen at your casino rather than assuming the highest published figure applies. RTP describes the long-run average, not what you'll get back from a session.
Does Nolimit City make live casino games?
No. Nolimit City is a slot developer. Evolution's live roulette, blackjack and game shows belong to a separate brand within the same group. Look under the casino's live-game categories if you want a dealer rather than reels.
