About Hacksaw Gaming
Hacksaw Gaming has a rougher look than much of the casino lobby. Think scruffy outlaws, graffiti and characters who look thoroughly unimpressed to be there. I much prefer that to another screen covered in gold trim. Wanted Dead or a Wild's grimy Western setting is right up my street.
The developer can be just as inventive with the games underneath. Wild symbols stretch down reels, collect multipliers or turn up for a duel. Elsewhere, winning clusters leave marked positions behind for another feature to use. If you enjoy finding out how a bonus works, there's quite a lot to get your teeth into here.
Hacksaw games are available at UK-licensed casinos, and free demos let you explore the slots with virtual credits. Start a free game below, or compare our recommended Hacksaw casinos for real-money play.
From scratchcards to slots
Hacksaw was founded in 2018. Scratchcards were an early focus, and they featured in the announcement of the developer's British licence in October 2019. Scratchcards are still part of the catalogue today.
Slots were already arriving around that time. Stick'Em went on general release in September 2019, before Wanted Dead or a Wild followed in 2021. The studio then had a busy 2023, releasing R.I.P. City, Le Bandit and Chaos Crew 2. That last game won Game of the Year at the 2023 SiGMA Streamers Awards.
The slots have grown in several directions. Wanted Dead or a Wild introduced DuelReels, where a showdown determines a wild reel's multiplier. Le Bandit went down the cluster route, while Hand of Anubis uses two types of multiplier wild in its base game. There's a shared fondness for multiplying things, certainly, but the rules aren't interchangeable.
Hacksaw Slots to Try
Wanted Dead or a Wild
Game Information
In Wanted Dead or a Wild, VS symbols can expand into wild reels, with a duel deciding the multiplier attached to each one. If several of those reels contribute to the same winning line, their multipliers are added together.
The Western theme carries through to three separate bonuses. Great Train Robbery uses sticky wilds, and Duel at Dawn increases the chance of landing several VS symbols at once. Dead Man's Hand first collects wilds and multipliers, then brings them together for a showdown. With a 5x5 layout and 15 paylines, there's a fairly compact set of reels beneath all that gun smoke.
Le Bandit
Game Information
Le Bandit, released in August 2023, swaps paylines for clusters on a 6x5 grid. Winning positions leave Golden Squares behind. A Rainbow can turn those marked squares into coins, multipliers and collecting symbols.
That's the part I find appealing: a position on the board matters after the original winning symbols have gone. The Super Cascades also clear other matching regular symbols, beyond the winning cluster itself. It takes a little more explanation than an ordinary cascade, but it changes how much of the board can clear at once.
R.I.P. City
Game Information
The cats in R.I.P. City do rather more than sit beside the reels. Wild Cats expand downwards, absorbing ordinary wilds in their path as multipliers. During Maxx free spins, a cat's first appearance activates that reel for further appearances during the feature.
This January 2023 release has 19 paylines across a 5x5 layout.
Chaos Crew 2
Game Information
Cranky and Sketchy return in Chaos Crew 2 with the graffiti-style artwork, a 5x5 layout and 19 paylines.
Cranky wilds carry multipliers. When more than one joins the same winning line, those multipliers multiply each other. That's an important difference from Wanted's addition rule. The random Epic Drop feature can also bring multiplier symbols into the base game, so they aren't confined to the bonus round.
Hand of Anubis
Game Information
Hand of Anubis was released on 21 April 2022. The 5x6 grid pays for clusters. In the base game, red and blue Soul Orbs act as multiplier wilds. The red multiplier increases for each winning symbol; the blue one increases for each winning cluster. When both colours join a winning cluster, their values multiply together.
The Underworld and Judgment bonuses are triggered by three and four free-spin symbols respectively.
Hacksaw RTP and Volatility
Hacksaw's more dramatic slots can make the whole catalogue sound ferocious. The developer's own ratings are more varied. Le Bandit and R.I.P. City each score three out of five for volatility; Wanted scores four, and Chaos Crew 2 scores five. Those are Hacksaw's ratings, rather than a universal scale shared by every studio.
What does that mean for you? A higher score means more uneven payouts. The lower-rated games aren't guaranteed to pay regularly either. Chaos Crew 2's maximum volatility rating would weigh more heavily in my choice than its award.
RTP varies between versions as well. Wanted Dead or a Wild has published settings of 96.38%, 94.55%, 92.33% and 88.42%. Le Bandit's include 96.34%, 94.23%, 92.17% and 88.36%. A headline figure on a review can therefore be right for one version and wrong for the one you've opened.
The game's information menu gives you the figure for that version. RTP is a long-run theoretical average, not a promise to return that percentage of your deposit. There's no single 'Hacksaw RTP' that covers the lot.
Beyond Slots: Scratchcards and Instant Games
Hacksaw still makes digital scratchcards, including Chaos Crew Scratch and Stack'Em Scratch. You reveal the covered result rather than spinning reels. The names may be familiar from the slots, but these are separate scratchcard games, not a bonus round hidden inside the original.
Chaos Crew Scratch arrived in April 2021. You scratch away graffiti to uncover the symbols, with three matching symbols needed for a win. I like that the studio kept the graffiti idea when changing formats. Scratching the wall makes rather more sense here than dropping the same characters onto a generic lottery ticket.
There are instant-win games too. Plinko and Mines have very different rules, and neither needs a row of slot symbols.
Plinko
Hacksaw released Plinko in May 2023. You choose between eight and 16 rows of pegs and select a low, medium or high risk setting. A ball then drops through the pegs into a multiplier pocket at the bottom.
Changing the settings changes the payout pattern and volatility. It doesn't let you steer the ball.
Mines
Mines asks you to uncover diamonds on a board containing hidden bombs. After a successful pick, you can collect the amount shown or uncover another square. Hit a bomb and the round ends with the current pot lost.
You can change the board size and number of bombs, so the odds and payouts vary with the setup. The grids range from 3x3 to 9x9. It sounds like a puzzle, but there are no clues telling you where the bombs are. That's the important distinction: choosing a square doesn't give you a way to work out the result in advance.
Playing Hacksaw Games on Your Phone
Hacksaw designs games for mobile play, including both slots and scratchcards. You can access them through a casino's mobile website, or through its app where one is available. Browser play doesn't require a separate Hacksaw download.
The scratchcards are designed specifically for portrait mode. You can keep your phone upright while revealing the card, rather than turning it sideways for a wide set of reels. That's a small detail, but a sensible one for this format. The mobile catalogue isn't limited to slots: Mines can also be played through a phone's browser.
