10 Best Low Stakes Slots for UK Players in 2026

Retro Low Stakes Slots illustration with 5p and 10p coins and slot reels.

Ten pence is not much use in a supermarket trolley. On the right slot, it still gets all the reels moving.

These ten low-stakes slots have published UK spin prices of 5p, 9p or 10p with the full payline layout active. There are compact fruit machines, expanding-wild classics and a couple of much more volatile adventures. A small bet needn't mean an empty game, but it doesn't make a demanding one gentle either.

We're counting down from ten to one, weighing up the full-spin cost, the features and how the game suits a modest session budget. Each review has a matching demo and a real-money casino option from our top 20 UK casinos. Casino settings can vary, so check the total bet shown before your first paid spin.

Our ten best low-stakes slots

#10. Dead or Alive 2

NetEnt | Full-layout stake: 9p

Dead or Alive 2 gameplay showing the reels and controls

Dead or Alive 2 costs just 9p for a spin across all nine paylines, but those pennies have wandered into a high-volatility Western. A quiet evening at the saloon is another matter.

Three or more scatters trigger an initial twelve free spins and a choice of three bonus modes. Old Saloon keeps the arrangement straightforward: wins are doubled and wilds stay where they land until the round ends. Collect at least one wild on every reel and you receive another five spins.

High Noon Saloon adds multiplier wilds. Two wilds on the same reel turn them into 2x wilds; three make them 3x, with multipliers multiplying together when they contribute to the same win. Train Heist takes a different route: each wild adds a free spin and moves the win multiplier up a step.

The sparse nine-line layout leaves the boots, badges and wanted posters easy to read. High Noon is the more elaborate take on the sticky-wild idea; Old Saloon is easier to follow if you would rather watch the screen fill than keep track of multiplying wilds.

#9. Book of Dead

Play'n GO | Full-layout stake: 10p

Book of Dead gameplay showing the reels and controls

A 10p spin buys all ten paylines in Book of Dead, though this high-volatility game can still be demanding on a small balance. Rich Wilde has never struck us as a man who keeps receipts.

His expedition uses five reels and three rows, with the book acting as both wild and scatter. Three books start ten free spins. Before those spins begin, one ordinary symbol is chosen to become the feature's special expanding symbol.

First, the game pays any regular winning combinations. The chosen symbol can then fill its entire reel when doing so creates an additional payout. Those expanded symbols can pay across separated reels, which is the lovely part of the feature: a gap between them needn't spoil the combination. Three or more books during the bonus add another ten free spins.

The ordinary game is sparse by comparison. Most of the character belongs to that expanding-symbol feature, so this is a more bonus-focused choice than the livelier base games further up our countdown.

#8. Wild Wild West: The Great Train Heist

NetEnt | Full-layout stake: 10p

Wild Wild West: The Great Train Heist gameplay showing the reels and controls

Ten pence won't get you far on the railway these days. In Wild Wild West: The Great Train Heist, it gets you mixed up with four outlaws and a distinctly unofficial method of collecting fares. NetEnt gives the robbery a comic-book treatment, with five reels and ten fixed paylines.

The free spins are the main attraction. Three or more scatter symbols bring up a selector wheel, which randomly assigns one of four wild features to that session: regular wilds, expanding wilds, 2x multiplier wilds or spreading wilds. There is a wild added to one of the first three reels on every free spin, using whichever feature the wheel selected.

An expanding wild takes over its reel, while the multiplier version boosts wins it helps complete. The wheel gives the bonus a little opening ceremony, and the changing wild behaviour keeps the train heist from feeling like the same shoot-out every time.

There is also a shorter diversion in the base game. Bonus symbols on reels one, three and five trigger Pick and Click: choose one symbol to reveal a prize worth 5x to 50x your total stake. The others then reveal what they were hiding, in case the train robbery wasn't aggravating enough.

#7. Hugo

Play'n GO | Full-layout stake: 10p

Hugo gameplay showing the reels and controls

Hugo gives you a proper choice when the free spins arrive. You can take five spins with each Hugoline scatter worth three times your total stake, ten spins with each worth twice your stake, or fifteen spins with each paying once. It's a small decision, but it gives this gold-mine adventure more character than another automatic batch of ten.

The original Hugo runs on five reels and ten selectable paylines, with 10p covering the full set. Hugo himself is wild and doubles wins he helps form, except combinations made entirely of wilds. Three or more witch scatters start the free spins, where Hugoline can appear stacked across the reels. Another three witches retrigger the number of spins you originally chose.

There is a separate treasure hunt too. Chests on reels one, three and five send you into the mine to pick doors and collect prizes on the way to the treasure chamber. Don Croco may be behind a door, at which point the outing ends. A fairly persuasive argument for checking who owns the mine before wandering in.

#6. Arcader

Thunderkick | Full-layout stake: 10p

Arcader gameplay showing the reels and controls

Pixelated cherries, chunky BARs and an electronic soundtrack give Arcader the look of a fruit machine that has borrowed the neighbouring video game's speakers. Thunderkick's five-reel slot has 15 fixed paylines, with enough going on between the fruit to justify keeping the sound on.

The Expander is the cleverest symbol in the base game. It fills its reel with matching symbols, choosing the one that produces the best payline result. An ordinary-looking screen can suddenly have a whole column working in its favour.

Three or more Bonus symbols trigger nine free spins. Each spin offers a chance of a sticky wild on one of the middle three reels, and those wilds stay put until the feature finishes. Extra Bonus symbols in the trigger can also increase the round's win multiplier.

The separate Mystery game starts with three or more M symbols. Here you pick concealed prizes until you uncover a blank or collect the lot, with a multiplier determined by the triggering symbols. It adds a welcome interruption to the reel action. The 1980s techno soundtrack, meanwhile, has no intention of taking a break. Your neighbours can consider it a cultural exchange.

#5. The Paying Piano Club

Play'n GO | Full-layout stake: 5p

The Paying Piano Club gameplay showing the reels and controls

Into the top five, and the admission price drops to 5p. The Paying Piano Club somehow fits a band above its three-reel fruit machine. Play'n GO's ragtime gin joint gives you five paylines, musical instruments and stacked wilds, with a free-spins round that gradually becomes more interesting as the coins arrive.

A full stack of wilds on a winning spin activates a random multiplier of 2x, 3x, 5x or 10x. It applies to that spin's win, with one multiplier awarded even if several wild stacks have turned up. Wilds substitute for the ordinary symbols.

Three band-member scatters bring the musicians together for five free spins. Gold coin scatters then add an extra spin apiece and raise every available multiplier by one. Those increases last for the remainder of the round, giving each new coin a job beyond merely keeping the music playing.

Once the free spins finish, the multiplier values return to their starting levels.

#4. Esqueleto Explosivo

Thunderkick | Full-layout stake: 10p

Esqueleto Explosivo gameplay showing the reels and controls

A mariachi band made of skulls is an odd choice for a quiet evening, but Esqueleto Explosivo has a pleasantly direct rhythm. Winning symbols disappear, the remaining symbols drop and new ones fill the gaps. Another winning combination keeps the sequence going without another paid spin.

This is the original Thunderkick game, with seventeen fixed paylines across a five-column, three-row layout. It pays along lines despite the tumbling symbols. A 10p stake covers the whole board, and there is no separate scatter-triggered free-spins round to wait for.

The Explosivo wild makes a more forceful contribution. Besides substituting, it removes surrounding symbols and triggers a respin even when the screen has no line win. Respins and wild appearances can raise the multiplier through 1x, 2x, 4x, 8x, 16x and 32x. It returns to its starting level for a new paid round.

Thunderkick rates this original version low volatility. Its appeal is the action within an ordinary round: a drop, another match, perhaps a wild blowing a hole in the arrangements. The singing skulls supply the accompaniment. You do wonder how they manage the brass instruments without lungs.

#3. Fire Joker

Play'n GO | Full-layout stake: 5p

Fire Joker gameplay showing the reels and controls

Five paylines, three reels and a joker with an unfortunate complexion. Fire Joker keeps the screen compact enough to follow at a glance, with cherries, lemons, BARs and sevens doing most of the work. The Joker has brought the fruit machine and his own central heating. The whole five-line game starts at 5p.

The Joker substitutes for the ordinary symbols, and three matching symbols along a payline produce a win. Look for the stacks, though. If two reels fill with matching symbols on a spin that hasn't paid, they stay put while the third reel gets one free respin. That little pause with two reels already settled supplies much of the game's suspense.

Fill all nine positions with the same symbol and the Wheel of Multipliers takes over, multiplying the resulting win by up to ten. There is no separate free-spins journey to interrupt the little fruit machine.

#2. Starburst

NetEnt | Full-layout stake: 10p

Starburst gameplay showing the reels and controls

Our runner-up is Starburst, the original NetEnt game with ten paylines and expanding wilds. Its 10p full-layout stake helps, but the main pleasure is how little explanation stands between you and the reels. Gems, BARs and sevens sit against a space backdrop; the star is responsible for most of the excitement. Even space occasionally benefits from a bit of tidying.

A Starburst wild on reel two, three or four expands to fill that reel and awards a respin. The expanded reel stays in place while the others spin. If another eligible reel picks up a wild, it expands too and extends the sequence, up to three respins altogether.

Wins pay from either end of the five-reel layout. That gives the held wild reels work to do in both directions, without adding another page of symbols or a separate free-spins round. There are no scatter symbols to collect and no bonus destination to travel to.

Starburst has acquired plenty of relatives, so look for the plain original title in the lobby. XXXtreme and Galaxy are different games. The original keeps its expanding-wild feature in the ordinary game, with the full ten-line layout covered by the 10p stake.

#1. Turning Totems

Thunderkick | Full-layout stake: 10p

Turning Totems gameplay showing the reels and controls

Turning Totems takes first place with a modest 10p stake, low volatility according to Thunderkick, and a set of reels with unusually expressive faces. Each symbol turns sideways on its totem pole. It looks faintly as though the whole village has heard something behind it.

The five-reel, three-row game pays across eleven fixed lines in both directions. Its Sleeping Wilds begin as ordinary paying symbols. A Thunder Snake changes the reel it lands on into a Thunder Reel for the rest of that round, waking any Sleeping Wilds there so they can substitute.

Activating a new Thunder Reel awards a respin, except when the spin brings the total to three or more active Thunder Reels: that starts five free spins. You can build towards the bonus across the round, following which poles have been activated. The snakes do not all have to arrive together.

That small progression gives the base game something worth watching, while the lower volatility makes it a more natural fit for this list than the biggest advertised jackpot. The full eleven-line game remains available at the minimum stake. Ten pence, a thunderstorm and several employees who only wake up when management intervenes. Rather a lot for the money.

What counts as a low-stakes slot?

For this list, the ceiling is 10p for a paid spin with every payline active. You can reasonably call a 15p or 20p game low stakes too; this selection concentrates on the cheaper end.

A 1p coin setting is not necessarily a 1p spin. If a game charges one 1p coin on each of ten active lines, the total is 10p. Games with selectable lines may let you reduce that cost by activating fewer lines. That also changes which combinations can pay, so compare like with like.

Low stake and low volatility describe different things. The stake is what you pay for a spin. Volatility describes how unevenly the prizes are distributed: a high-volatility game can have longer lean stretches and occasional larger results. Lowering the stake scales down the money involved; it doesn't turn Book of Dead into a different kind of slot.

What does a £10 slot budget buy?

Before any returns are played again, £10 pays for 200 spins at 5p, 111 complete spins at 9p with 1p left over, or 100 spins at 10p. At 20p it covers 50 spins. Those are simple purchase counts, not predictions of how long a session will last.

  • Choose a spending limit first. Keep it to money you can afford to lose, and use the casino's deposit and time limits to support it.
  • Leave the stake alone after losses. Increasing it to recover a balance makes the next round more expensive without making a win due.
  • Read the actual RTP. It is the game's theoretical long-run return, not your chance of winning a spin. At 96% RTP, £100 of total stakes has a theoretical £4 loss; a short session can finish far above or below that average. Many games have several RTP versions. Compare the help-screen figure at the casino, not just a familiar percentage attached to the title.
  • Separate the deposit from the bet. A casino accepting a small deposit can still have games with higher minimum stakes. Check withdrawal minimums too, particularly if you expect to withdraw a small balance.

One current wrinkle: Prime's Fire Joker page and Genting's Hugo and Piano Club pages list 91% RTP, while some accompanying descriptions quote higher figures. Use the help screen in the version you actually open to settle the difference.

Low stakes: the advantages and the trade-offs

More spins for the same starting amount. That is the clearest advantage of a 5p or 10p setting. You can also keep the full set of features in these games without moving up to pound-sized bets.

Smaller cash prizes. A 100x result at 5p pays £5; at 10p it pays £10. The multiplier can look spectacular while the pounds remain fairly down to earth.

The balance is still at risk. Low-stakes games do not automatically pay more often or protect a deposit. The difference between an uneventful losing spin at 5p and one at £1 is the amount lost.

Choosing a casino for low-stakes play

The links above spread the games across operators from our homepage shortlist. Search for the exact title in the lobby, especially where there is a sequel, Megaways version or similarly named jackpot game.

If you take a welcome bonus, check the minimum deposit, eligible games, wagering requirements, expiry and withdrawal conditions. A big headline offer is little help if meeting its conditions requires more play than you intended. You can use the ordinary cash balance where the casino gives you that choice.

How we chose these games

We gave priority to a low price for the full layout, distinct features and a useful mix of styles. Published UK stake information was checked against provider descriptions and game rules, including Thunderkick's Turning Totems details, Play'n GO's Piano Club rules and NetEnt's Starburst page. The ranking favours games we would choose for a small-stake session over the largest advertised win.

18+. Gambling involves a risk of loss. Set a limit you can afford and stop when play stops being enjoyable.

Low-stakes slots: your questions answered

Spin prices, game choices and playing for money.

Where can I play low-bet slots?

The casino links in the countdown point to partners from our top 20 UK shortlist. Check the exact game title and total stake in the lobby before playing. A casino's minimum deposit and a slot's minimum bet are separate amounts.

Can you make a profit playing low-bet slots?

You can finish a session ahead, but slots have a house edge and are not a dependable way to make money. Playing for pennies reduces the cash risk per spin; it doesn't give you a profitable system. Patience, changing games or raising the stake after losses cannot make a random win due.

Which are the best 10p slots?

Turning Totems is our overall pick, followed by Starburst. Arcader and the original Esqueleto Explosivo also offer plenty to follow at a published 10p full-layout stake. Fire Joker and The Paying Piano Club go lower at 5p. Check the total bet on the casino version you open.

Can I play low-bet slots for free?

Yes. Each review links to the matching demo, using virtual credits with no cash-out value. UK demos may require age verification. They are useful for learning the controls and features; a successful demo session does not predict a real-money result.

Can I play progressive slots with a low wager?

Some progressive slots accept small bets, but jackpot eligibility and the effect of stake size depend on that particular game's rules. Check the total spin cost, any jackpot contribution and the qualifying bet before playing. A 1p coin value may still produce a much larger full-layout stake. None of the ten games ranked here is a progressive-jackpot selection.
